Position Summary:

The Operations Officer plays a substantial role in the day–to-day administration of the business as well as in development of new business opportunities. The candidate will be expected to ensure that Partners are rendered high quality services across underwriting, claims, training, marketing and customer relationship matters. This role provides career advancement and significant development opportunities and the candidate will be pushed to grow quickly. The role requires a self-motivated, productive team member interested in growing professionally in a rapidly expanding organization.

This post will be located in the Life House Building in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Primary Responsibilities:

• Some responsibilities begin day one and are denoted with “immediate”, but many will require mentorship and expertise development from MicroEnsure staff as micro insurance is a new industry and are denoted as “developmental”.

• Support the Principal Officer in management of underwriting relationships. (immediate)

• Daily operations management for claims facilitation, underwriting and reporting. (Immediate)

• Implement and improve standard business processes for claims facilitation, client registration, reporting and customer care. (developmental)

• Develop and manage customer service activities. (Immediate) • Develop, support and execute market research and marketing activities and programs across product lines. (Developmental)

• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage project plans and projects across multiple stakeholders and priorities. (immediate/developmental)

• Manage existing and new client relationships in partnership with Principal Officer and General Manager. (Developmental)

• Develop new product (crop, health, life, property) and distribution products, concepts and partnerships (direct, phone, NGOs, MFIs, etc). (Developmental)

Qualifications

• Diploma in insurance or other business/financial qualification

• 5+ years of technical and management experience

• Experience managing corporate relationships such as with insurers, MFIs, banks, and NGOs

• Significant experience and demonstrated skill utilizing Microsoft Excel and Word

• Demonstrated skill and experience managing and developing others

• Ability to maintain sense of organization with multiple demands and projects

• Ability to design and improve business processes and reports

• Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines

• Strong self-starter able to perform tasks with minimal input

• Customer service oriented with focus on clients, customers, and internal MicroEnsure partners

• Ability to develop and work with business cases, simple financial models and project budgets

• Fluent written and spoken Swahili and English required

• A commitment to model and articulate MicroEnsure’s mission, vision and core values
