Job Description

PATH is collaborating with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Zanzibar Ministry of Health (MOHSW & MOH), National and Zanzibar TB and Leprosy Programs (NTLP & ZTLP), National and Zanzibar AIDS Control Programs (NACP & ZACP), and the Association of Private Health Facilities of Tanzania to support a coordinated public and private sector response to TB and HIV with support and funding through USAID and President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

As a member of the PATH TB Technical team in Tanzania, the TB/HIV Officer will work under the direction of the PATH TB Project Director and support a diverse portfolio related to implementation of TB/HIV collaborative activities.

The TB/HIV Technical Officer will be based in PATH Offices in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The position responsibilities are as follows:
  • Provide technical and management support to TB/HIV project and support Project Director for introduction and scale up of TB/HIV collaborative activities at all levels of the health system
  • Supervise two(2) Zonal TB/HIV Coordinators
  • Provide training to clinicians on diagnostic counseling and testing and other key interventions related to TB/HIV collaborative activities
  • Develop and review project work plans, track project progress, and prepare reports on deliverables.
  • Build regional and district staff capacity in TB and TB/HIV and provide training to staff.
  • Support scale up, coordination and monitor implementation of project activities in TB and TB/HIV.
  • Conduct technical supervisory visits to PATH supported districts and provide feedback to all levels
  • Represent project in technical working groups and meetings with other partners.
  • Work with project staff to develop journal articles, presentations, and posters to promote project.
  • Organize and participate in project team meetings and participate in PATH's global TB team meetings.
Required Skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications in English and Kiswahili.
  • Knowledge of clinical and programmatic aspects of tuberculosis control and of HIV/tuberculosis integration issues.
  • Ability to conduct trainings and build capacity of others in areas related to TB and TB/HIV co-infection and interventions issues.
  • Ability to assess readiness to introduce TB/HIV collaborative activities at all levels of the health system and identify strengths and weaknesses at the facility level.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain schedules for deliverable with excellent attention to detail.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills to facilitate relations with Government and Local partners.
  • Ability to work in cross-cultural work environment
  • Good computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent organization, planning, negotiating and problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity with USAID projects and working with international organizations is preferred.
Required Experience

MD or Masters Degree inf Public Health , plus a minimum of five years' experience in TB or TB/HIV control, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
